Tea is Back!

admin on Nov-16-2009

It’s staggering the that we Americans have been such lack luster tea consumers ever since the Boston Tea Party protest of December 16th 1773. Did you know tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world next to water! On any given day in the US only half the population drinks tea. To top that off 82% of that tea is Black Tea, and only 17% Green Tea.

Now, for the half of Americans drinking tea, only 15% of us drink hot tea. Apparently 85% of Americans think Iced Tea is the way to go.

So get this; the Tea Council of the USA released a report providing informative updates.

  1. Caffeine consumed in moderation does not dehydrate you.
  2. Women should drink on average 9 eight oz servings of beverages each day.
  3. Men should drink 13 eight oz. servings of beverages each day.
  4. Beverages should not make up more then 10 – 15 % of your daily calories.
  5. Limit daily caffeine to 500 milligrams

Beverage priorities based on average calories, nutrients and health potential benefits.

  •  Water
  •  Unsweetened Tea (Black, Green, White, Oolong, Herbal)
  •  Unsweetened Coffee (Flavored & Non-Flavored)
